Paul Mccartney lyrical influences.

Interview -

Paul Mccartney a very well renowned singer/songwriter, his involvement with the Beatles gain an increasing amount of fame as an individual artist when referring to his songwriting prowess. Known for many of his songs like “Hey Jude” and “Ebony and Ivory” the guitarist strumming melodic tones, which we know today as Paul Mccartney. Today an interview with Paul Mccartney referring to the influence for his songs in today's society.

Which one of your songs would you say has the best impact on society or a song which critics the social norms of our current community?
Well. Ebony and Ivory has quite an influential impact given it's a reference towards the discrimination amongst caucasian and African communities and was based on Martin Luther King’s ideology, not to mention it was a collaboration with Stevie wonder which the guy himself is a major influence not only in musical terms but in our society. The album Tug of war was essentially where the majority of my songs were written towards the social and political infringements so to speak.

Could you elaborate the lyrics for us, please?
I would say the lyrics are very self-explanatory. “Ebony and ivory lived together in harmony” well Ebony is a reference towards the African community and Ivory is obviously the Caucasian/white community, living in a unified place where there is no discrimination or racism. This line would basically repeat again for the majority of the song. I feel there was no need to supplement much lyrics in this piece since Stevie wonder already a major impact from the presence alone, I wanted it to be simultaneously catchy and to gain traction.
There are some critics who viewed this was lyrically your weakest album.
In some aspects, I can see that. I'm not confident on my lyrics in this album in particular. I guess you could say I saw this coming, comparing my other work I can see why this wasn’t that liked upon critics. I mean personally, the song was meant to be plucking the social d

What are your influences for making lyrics like Ebony and Ivory?
The lyrics are essentially what I find socially wrong and any experience from the past where social discrimination or poverty is impactfully towards me. Like one of the songs in the “Tug of war” Album “somebody who cares” is about depression and the song is about how can help those with similar mental illness since I know that this topic is impactful in a sense that I have an urge to write about.

Somebody who cares. Could please elaborate some of the lyrics?
“Somebody who cares” is more lyrically varied compared to “ebony and ivory”. Like I mentioned before it hits topics like depression and anxiety. I used similes to make more relatable towards my audience “Like Somebody Has Taken The Wheels Off Your Car”  This was essentially my message towards those who face struggles with mental illnesses. It was a way to transcribe my voice in a musical format and help others.
“If You Don't Know It How Will It Find You?
How Will We Know Your Whereabouts?
But I Know How You Feel”
I guess adding these “rhetorical questions” give more of an impact and make seemingly more “deep” that it actually is.

But yeah, the song is essentially a distress signal for people who find themselves in a drastic situation.
